On Thursday the 9th of November, Cavan and Monaghan ETB were delighted to administer the Local Youth Club Equipment Scheme for the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. This once off Scheme, born out of the Departments ‘Youth Capital Sub Group’ of which CMETB are a member, recognise the work of the Voluntary Led Youth Groups who have completed so much work over the last two years by engaging in the National Quality Standards for Volunteer Led Youth Groups.
142 Volunteer Led Youth Groups will receive a total allocation of just under €574,000 from the Department. This funding will go directly towards the equipment needs of all voluntary youth groups and special interest youth activities, like the Community Games, Foroige, Macra, Music Groups, Marching Bands, Drama Groups, Special Interest Groups, Youth Work Ireland Groups, Scouting Ireland Groups and Religious Groups. The young people who participate in these groups have directly informed the Equipment needs that have being identified in their groups applications.
When this Equipment Grant Scheme was announced, Minister Katherine Zappone gave a vision – that every Parish of the Country would benefit from this funding. CMETB also echo this vision and on approving the allocations for all of the Youth Groups, feel that we have lived up to that vision.
Speaking at the event, Chairperson Cllr Clifford Kelly, paid tribute to Minister Katherine Zappone and her Department for their continued support to the Voluntary Youth Work Sector in Cavan and Monaghan and said CMETB looked forward to working with her in future years to further develop the fine youth provision that our young people have become accustomed too.
