What is Literacy?
Literacy involves listening, speaking, reading, writing, numeracy and using every day technology to communicate and handle information. It includes more than the technical skills of communication (reading, writing and spelling). It also has personal, social and economic dimensions. Literacy increases the opportunity for individuals and communities to reflect on their situations explore new possibilities and initiate change.
The service is free and confidential and may be offered on a one to one basis or in small groups depending on individual needs. Classes are available across Cavan and Monaghan.
What kinds of courses are on offer?
Accredited courses range from QQI Levels 1 to 4.
Non – accredited programmes can focus on any of the following areas.
- Helping children with homework.
- Improving Handwriting
- Reading books and newspapers
- Filling in Forms
- Improving numeracy and Maths skills
- Basic Computers
